DOVER, Del. --The Delaware State Hornets rallied to score four in the ninth inning and walked it off on a single off the bat of Justin Batts to pick up the 7-6 victory over the Norfolk State Spartans Sunday.
Batts (2-0) got the win for Delaware State (7-31, 6-21). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Alec Rodriguez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.
The Hornets lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 4-1. Delaware State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Rodriguez's single, which tightened the Spartans lead to 4-3.
Norfolk State extended their lead to 6-3 before Delaware State rallied to score four times in the bottom half of the ninth to claim victory, walking it off on an RBI single off the bat of Batts.
