GAME 1 | VMI 10, Delaware State 0
LEXINGTON, VA -- P. Dhein and C. Taylor combined to throw a shutout on Friday as the VMI Keydets blanked the Delaware State Hornets 10-0.
Michael Lane (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (0-1). The right-hander went three innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out five. Kaleb Scott was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking none and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Delaware State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Hornets last got a runner on third in the sixth, when Hassan Turner made it 90 feet away from scoring with two outs.
GAME 2 | VMI 24, Delaware State 4
LEXINGTON, Virginia --The Delaware State Hornets struggled on Friday, falling to the VMI Keydets by final score of 24-4.
Eddie Valle-Zay (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (0-2).
Offensively, the Hornets were led by Justin Batts, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Rosnell Lewis put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI. Myles Dickerson also helped out for Delaware State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the second inning. Delaware State plated a run on a based-loaded walk by Lewis.
The Keydets then scored 15 runs to retake their advantage heading into the fourth inning, when the Hornets responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. which tightened the Keydets lead to 16-4. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as VMI added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 24-4 final.
