GAME 1 | Delaware State 12, Norfolk State 11
DOVER, Del. --The Delaware State Hornets broke through after a 10-10 tie in the seventh inning to beat the Norfolk State Spartans 12-11 Saturday.
Justin Batts (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Delaware State (5-31, 4-21). The right-hander went four innings, giving up four runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Delaware State plated two runs when Alec Rodriguez left the yard with Jabril Bullock aboard.
After the Spartans rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the second inning. Delaware State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a Rodriguez, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Hornets.
Norfolk State narrowed Delaware State's lead to 5-4 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 8-4 in the fourth inning. The Hornets scored three times, with an output that included back-to-back homers from Rodriguez and Jaryn Sample.
Delaware State lost the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the scoreboard in the seventh trailing 10-8. The Hornets drove home two runs when a single from Caleb King scored Sample and Sebastain Paz, tying the score at 10-10.
That 10-10 tie turned into a 12-10 Hornets lead in the eighth. Delaware State plated two runs off of Norfolk State pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Bullock. Norfolk State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hornets still held on for the 12-11 win.

DOVER, Del. --The Delaware State Hornets rallied to score five in the ninth inning and walked it off on a single off the bat of Jabril Bullock to pick up the 11-10 win over the Norfolk State Spartans Saturday.
Ryan Mejia (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Delaware State (6-31, 5-21). The right-hander went 1.2 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on one hit, allowing four walks and striking out one. Ethan Johnson started the ballgame and went seven innings, surrendering four runs, three earned, on 10 hits, walking two and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the third inning. Jaryn Sample drove in two runs for Delaware State with a single, that scored Carter Boyd and Hassan Turner.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Hornets got going again on offense. Delaware State managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Hornets.
Delaware State's lead had evaporated by the time the eighth inning came around and turned into a 10-4 Norfolk State advantage, when the Hornets cut that deficit to 10-6.
Delaware State kept its deficit in check, holding Norfolk State scoreless before scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth to claim victory, walking it off on an RBI single off the bat of Bullock.
