DOVER, DE --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Delaware State had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 12 Hornets on base in a 9-2 setback at the hands of the Coppin State Eagles on Saturday.
Junior Nathan Vidmar started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (4-28, 3-18).
At the plate, the Hornets were paced by sophomore Jaryn Sample, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, a walk and two RBI. Junior Jabril Bullock compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and a walk. Freshman Brandon Boyd also contributed for Delaware State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the third inning. Delaware State got on the board thanks to Sample's RBI double with two outs.
The Eagles expanded their lead to 9-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Sample, which brought the score to 9-2 in favor of the Eagles. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
