DOVER, DE --An outstanding offensive output was not enough for Delaware State on Sunday. The Hornets scored five runs, but could not hold the LIU Sharks at bay, and were bested 16-5.
Junior Nathan Vidmar started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (3-15, ).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of sophomore A. Rodriguez.
The Sharks then rallied to score 10 runs and take an 11-3 lead before the Hornets got back on the board in the seventh. Delaware State scored twice on freshman Justin Batts' two-run homer, which tightened the Sharks lead to 11-5. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as LIU added five runs to their tally on the way to a 16-5 final.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
» Delaware State pitchers faced 47 LIU hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and five fly balls while striking out eight.
» Rodriguez led the Hornets at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
