DOVER, DE --Sophomore Michael Lane had everything working on Friday, striking out 10 LIU hitters over 7.1 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Delaware State Hornets lost to the Sharks 8-2.
In addition to his 10 strikeouts, Lane tossed 7.1 shutout innings while giving up one hit and walking four for Delaware State (3-14, ).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Delaware State got an RBI single from sophomore Jaryn Sample, scoring freshman Hassan Turner from second base.
The Sharks failed to push any runs across before the Hornets built on their lead in the seventh inning. Freshman Caleb King came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the Hornets lead to 2-0. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as LIU scored eight times over the remaining two innings to grab the 8-2 win.
