Delaware State Drops Three Game Series to Manhattan

GAME 1 | Manhattan 5, Delaware State 3
DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets put together a valiant performance on Saturday, but ultimately came up short, falling to the Manhattan Jaspers by the score of 5-3.

Sophomore Eddie Del got the ball to start for Delaware State (1-6) and took the loss. Freshman Chase Snavely was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with two walks and five strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 3-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State got on the board thanks to freshman Santino Harwood's RBI double with one out.

The Jaspers expanded their lead to 4-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fourth. Delaware State scored twice on freshman Justin Batts' two-run homer, which tightened the Jaspers lead to 4-3. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Manhattan added one run to their tally on the way to a 5-3 final.

DOVER, DE --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Delaware State had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 11 Hornets on base in a 4-3 setback at the hands of the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday.

Junior Nathan Vidmar started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (1-8). Freshman Jeremy Vest was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.1 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out three.

At the plate, the Hornets were led by freshman Brandon Boyd, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Sophomore A. Rodriguez put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Senior Brady Daniels also contributed for Delaware State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 4-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Boyd's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Delaware State.

The Hornets kept the Jaspers off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Daniels, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Jaspers. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
