DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets had a tough showing on Friday, falling to the Manhattan Jaspers 7-3 despite the efforts of freshman Brandon Boyd, who went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Sophomore Michael Lane (0-1) got the ball to start for Delaware State (1-5) and took the loss. The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing four walks and striking out four.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by Boyd, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Sebastian Paz put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Caleb King also helped out for Delaware State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Paz. Manhattan then scored four times over the remaining three innings to break the tie and grab the 7-3 win.
