Hornets Drop Doubleheader on Opening Day to North Carolina A&T

GAME 1 | N.C. A&T 12, Delaware State 3
GREENSBORO, NC --The Delaware State Hornets struggled on Friday, falling to the N.C. A&T Aggies 12-3 despite the efforts of sophomore A. Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with a double.

Sophomore Michael Lane (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Delaware State (0-1, ). The right-hander went six innings, giving up five runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing four walks and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Delaware State scored twice, with one run coming across on freshman Hassan Turner's single.

The Hornets lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 5-2. Freshman Justin Batts came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Aggies. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as N.C. A&T added seven runs to their tally on the way to a 12-3 final.

GREENSBORO, NC --Delaware State received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Hornets fell to the N.C. A&T Aggies 14-4 Friday.

Sophomore Eddie  Del Valle (0-1) got the ball to start for Delaware State (0-2) and took the loss.

Offensively, the Hornets were led by senior Brady Daniels, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double, a walk and three RBI. Freshman Justin Batts compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Freshman Hassan Turner also helped out for Delaware State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Delaware State got an RBI single from Batts, scoring freshman Brandon Boyd from third base.

The Hornets lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 5-1. Daniels' bases-clearing double was the offense in a three-run inning for Delaware State, which tightened the Aggies lead to 5-4. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as N.C. A&T added nine runs to their tally on the way to a 14-4 final.

The Hornets will return Sunday, February 16 for the third game of the three game series. First Pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
