DOVER, Del. --- Delaware State infielder
Trey Paige has been selected to participate in the 2023 Minority Baseball Prospects (MBP) HBCU All-Star Weekend which will be held at Coolray Field, the home of Atlanta Braves' Triple A affiliate Gwinnett Stripers.
Â
When asked about his selection, Paige stated "I'm excited for the opportunity to represent the Delaware State University baseball program. I'm very thankful that MBP invited me and recognized me as one of the top players in HBCU baseball. It's another opportunity to showcase myself with some of the best and I couldn't be more thankful. Competing in the Home Run Derby will be a lot of fun as well, but I am really looking forward to the whole experience."
Â
He completed his Delaware State baseball career after the three-game series against University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) the way he started his final season, in historic fashion. 2023 began with Paige hitting for the cycle in the final game of the Hornets' opening series at The Citadel. He would go on to string together his second-straight season of 70+ hits highlighted by another year of double-digit home runs. His 14 round trippers on the year put him in a tie for fifth all time in the single-season record book. At UMES, Paige became the eighth member in program history to record 200 hits over the course of a career. All told, the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year has his name in seven different career categories, five of which he ranks in the top five. He is third out right in home runs (32) as well as walks (105) and is tied for third in doubles (46). He is fourth in runs scored (147) and tied for fifth in total at-bats (545). Paige's 203 total hits ranks him seventh all-time while his 136 RBIs put him in sixth place in program history.

Baseball's head coach
JP Blandin was also asked about Paige's All-Star selection and said "Our Hornet program and Delaware State University wishes 'our Cap' the best as he embarks on all of these wonderful opportunities as they are all well deserved. I am excited for Trey to get out there and compete with the best talent in the country. It's time for everyone to see what we've been seeing for the past four years." Â
Paige who will be playing in his second-straight All-Star Game as last year he was selected to play in the Coastal Plains League All-Star Game as a member of the Wilson Tobs, was selected to play for Team Ralph Garr earlier last month. He will also take part in the Home Run Derby which will happen prior to the All-Star Game. The Home Run Derby is currently scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the All-Star Game currently scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. first pitch.
