Paige picks up final career postseason honor

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. --- Delaware State infielder Trey Paige picked up his final postseason honor after being named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Second Team for the 2023 season as announced by the league office earlier today.
 
Paige led Delaware State in NEC competition with 45 hits in 124 at-bats for an average of .363 average at the plate. Of his 45 hits, 13 were doubles and eight were sent out of the park for a slugging percentage of .661% and also allowed him to step on a team-best 82 total bases. With a total of 17 walks and being hit twice, Paige was on base at a clip of .438%. He drove in a team-high 32 RBIs while scoring 30 runs.
 
Overall, Paige completed his Delaware State career in historic fashion. In his final year, he recorded his second-straight season of 70+ hits (70 in 2022, 71 in 2023) and double-digit home runs (13 in 2022, 14 in 2023) and became the eighth player in program history to join the 200-hit club. He finished the year with a team-high average of .372% at the plate and with 15 doubles and two triples to go with his home runs, he tallied a slugging percentage of .691% and collecting 132 total bases. He scored 55 runs while driving in 53.
 
The NEC postseason awards were highlight by Sam Mongelli of Sacred Heart who was named the Player of the Year. Dominic Niman and Charlie Hickey of Central Connecticut State were honored as the Pitcher and Coach of the Year respectively. Franki Ferrentino of Merrimack was tabbed the NEC Rookie of the year to round out the league's major awards for the 2023 season.
 
With his nod, Paige becomes the first Delaware State baseball player to receive All-NEC postseason honors.
