DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State baseball team will host Merrimack College this weekend in Northeast Conference (NEC) competition as members of a different conference for the first time in program history.
 
Longtime members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Delaware State baseball announced their joining of the NEC back in July which increased the league's baseball teams to 11 as fellow MEAC opponents Coppin State, University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Norfolk State also joined the NEC as associate members.
 
As for the series, Delaware State (3-7) has plenty options on offense with the Hornets currently having seven batters who have already recorded double-digits in the hits column led by the last-ever MEAC Player of the Year Trey Paige who has 17 through the team's first 10 games.
 
Delaware State will also count on everyday left fielder Alec Rodriguez whose bat has been hot as any lately. Rodriguez, the reigning NEC Co-Player of the Week currently leads the team in home runs (3) as well as RBIs (14)
 
A one-time NEC Rookie of the Week, Evan Bouldin enters this weekend continuing to make a name for himself as he currently sits fourth on the team in batting with an average of .324 and the only freshman on the team hitting above .300.
 
Newcomers Chris Amparo, Jancarlos Colon and Wilfredo Mendez have also made a name for themselves early on in the season. Amparo with 11 hits so far, has a pair of doubles and one home run while Colon with his 12 hits has managed one double and to drive in three runs. Mendez currently sits second on the team in RBIs (10) and third on the team in hits (13).

Merrimack College (0-8) are looking for the first win of the 2023 season. The Warriors will look to senior infielder Alex Haba who currently leads his team with 10 hits on the year.
