Norfolk, Va. (May 19, 2022) --- No. 1 seed Delaware State and No. 2 Coppin State will square off in the 2022 MEAC Tournament second round on Friday (May 20) at 12:00 p.m. at Norfolk State University's Marty L. Miller Field. The winner will be the first team to advance to Saturday's championship round.
The Hornets and Eagles emerged victorious in Thursday's opening round games, each winning by a run.
Delaware State scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat No. 4 Norfolk State 7-6, while Coppin State overcame a six-run deficit before holding on to defeat No. 3 Maryland-Eastern Shore 9-8.
The Hornets and Eagles met 10 times in the regular season, with Coppin State holding a 6-4 edge, although the Delaware State won the last two contests 7-0 and 12-4 on the road on May 8.
The Hornets hold a 7-5 lead over the Eagles in MEAC Tournament contests, including a 6-5 victory the last time the teams met in the postseason in 2019.
Delaware State will bring a 2022 MEAC season-high six-game win streak into Friday's second round tournament game, the Hornets' longest since also winning six in a row in 2017.
