DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State baseball team will conclude the 2022 regular season at home in a four-game series with University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition.

Fresh off a sweep of the first-place Coppin State Eagles on Sunday, the Hornets will look to continue that momentum at home this weekend. Delaware State was lead in large part by senior third baseman
Alan Alonso. Alonso, the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, recorded four hits in his eight at bats on Sunday for an even .500 batting average. Three of his hits went for extra bases, including a home run in game two, giving him a slugging percentage of 1.250. Alonso collected 10 total bases, scored five runs and drove in three.

Delaware State and UMES each own four wins in the eight games played on the season. The Hornets will look to
Trey Paige and
Brady Daniels to continue with the success they have had against the Hawks this year.

Paige, who leads the MEAC in six hitting categories heading into this weekend, has nine hits in 25 at bats for an average of .360 against UMES. Paige has three doubles and two home runs in his five extra base hits versus the Hawks. He has drawn two walks giving him an on-base percentage of .407.

Daniels, the Hornets' number one designated hitter has also enjoyed his fair share of success in the eight games with UMES. He has six hits in his 18 at bats giving him an average of .333. He has one double, one RBI and one run scored in the matchup. Daniels has also drawn two walks for an on-base percentage of .400.

UMES will be counting on graduate-student outfielder Brian Cordell who enters this weekend with a .409 batting average in his eight games played against Delaware State. Of his nine hits, Cordell has three extra-base hits including a home run and has tallied 14 total bases. He has drawn seven walks and been hit by a pitch once for an on-base percentage of .567. Cordell poses a threat on the bases having scored seven runs and stealing two.

On the mound for the Hawks, Derrick Rabb, Jr. looks to remain undefeated against the Hornets as he comes into this series with a 2-0 record. In 14 innings pitched, Rabb Jr. has only given up nine hits, four walks and only suffered two earned runs. He has 16 strikeouts between those two games, an ERA of 1.29 and a batter's average of .180.

As for Delaware State, a plethora of pitching options are available ahead of this weekend.
Zachary Dale,
Jordan Haddaway and
Evan Harris all own a 1-1 record against UMES.

Haddaway's 4.91 ERA is the lowest amongst all starting pitchers who have faced the Hawks. He also has a team-high 11 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. Dale enters the weekend with the lowest batting average against as UMES hitters can only muster .233 when he's on the mound. Harris, with strikeouts under his belt against the Hawks will attempt to continue that success this weekend.

Delaware State and UMES will open the four-game series on Thursday with a single nine-inning contest. First pitch from Bob Reed Field is currently scheduled for 3 p.m.
