DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State baseball team will host the Eagles of Coppin State in a four-game series this weekend with outright first place implications in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on the line.
Â
Delaware State (14-16, 11-9) enters this weekend's series having clinched a series over Norfolk State for the second time this season. The Hornets were led by reigning back-to-back MEAC Player of the Week
Trey Paige.
Â
Paige currently sits atop the league's leader board in five different categories. The sophomore infielder sits in first place in batting average (.398) – 35th in the country, slugging percentage (.757) - 20th in the country, OPS (1.269), doubles (11) and home runs (8). He also is tied in hits with 41.
Â
Krew Bouldin comes into the weekend series currently ranked amongst the national leaders in walks as he has earned a free base 30 times during his campaign. Bouldin has recorded at least two walks in 11 games this season and drew a season-high three at Norfolk State earlier this month.
Â
As for Coppin State (15-22, 11-9), the Eagles will look toward the two-time Rookie of the Week Marcos Herrand to keep their momentum going. The freshman pitcher threw a three-hit shutout in Coppin State's 7-0 win in game two of last Friday's doubleheader during their four-game series with the Hawks of University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Â
The Eagles won Saturday's series finale in route to a split with the Hawks and are looking to stretch their two-game win streak this weekend.
Â
First pitch from Bob Reed Field on DSU Downtown's campus is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
