Dover, Del. (May 6, 2021) --- The Delaware State baseball team looks to move closer to a MEAC Tournament berth in a series at North Carolina Central in Durham. N.C., this weekend.
The series begins with a single game on Fri. beginning at 3:00 p.m. The teams will play two seven-inning games on Sat. starting at 1:00 p..m., and wrap up the series with a one o'clock contest on Sunday. 
The Hornets are currently second in the three-team MEAC North race with an 11-12 division record, three-and-half games behind first place Norfolk State (15-9) and four games ahead of third place Coppin State (7-16).
The top two teams in the MEAC Northern and Southern divisions qualify for the conference championship tournament later this month in Norfolk, Va..
North Carolina Central is currently tied with North Carolina A&T for the No. 2 spot in the MEAC Southern Division. NC Central is 10-10 in division, while NCA&T is 12-12.
Florida A&M is the South leader at 12-10.
Delaware State and North Carolina Central split four games when they met at DSU Apr. 16-18.
The Hornets won the first game of the series 8-3, getting the better of NCCU standout and conference strikeout leader Austin Vernon. DSU scored all of its runs off Vernon, highlighted by home runs from Trey Paige and Mason Brewer. DSU's Cole Bates allowed just one earned run and struck out a career-high 10 batters to earn the win in the contest.
NCCU won the series finale 6-0 behind the pitching of Ryan Miller, who tossed eight shutout innings, striking out six. Miller is a MEAC best 8-0 on the mound this season.
