(May 13, 2021) --- The Delaware State baseball team wraps up its 2021 regular season with a four-game MEAC Northern Division series at Norfolk State beginning with a 3:00 p.m. contest today. The series resumes with a twin-bill on Friday starting at 12:00 p.m. and concludes with an 11:00 a.m. single game at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Va., on SundayÂ
The Hornets, currently second in the MEAC North with a 12-15 division record, need one win or a loss by third place Coppin State to North Carolina A&T this weekend, to secure a berth in the next week's MEAC Tournament.
The top two teams in the northern and southern divisions will qualify for the double-elimination championship tournament May 20-22 in Norfolk, Va.
Norfolk State (15-9 MEAC) has already clinched a tournament berth and No. 1 MEAC North seed.
The Spartans hold a 5-3 advantage in the series with the Hornets this season. The teams split four games at Norfolk State April 1-3. Delaware State won the nine-inning single games on Apr. 1 and   Apr. 3, while the Spartans swept the seven-inning doubleheader on Apr. 2.
Norfolk State won three of the four games when the teams met on Apr. 23 and 24 at Delaware State.
Delaware State is second in the MEAC with a .278 team batting average and No. 2 in the league in scoring at 6.2 runs per game.
The Spartans lead the MEAC with 93 stolen bases (in 127 attempts), while posting the league's third-best earned run average at 6.19.

Trey Paige is tops among all MEAC players with 100 or more at bats with a .383 average. Danny Hosley is Norfolk State's leader with a .361 average this season.
