Kent, OH (Mar, 29, 2019) --- Abby Jones had a game-high five goals, while Graceyn Dean, Kelli Bailey and Lluna Katz tallied four each to lead Kent State to a 21-6 victory over Delaware State in a women's lacrosse contest today. The Golden Flashes won for the first time in team history (1-10), while the Hornets fell to 1-5.
Kent State opened the scoring with three goals in the first four-plus minutes, including one each by Jones and Dean.
Delaware State answered with back-to-back scores by Olivia Summerville to pull to within a goal at the 17:11 mark of the first period. Jasmine West assisted on the first goal; the second was unassisted.
Bailey scored twice and Katz added a goal over the next four-and-a-half minutes to give the Golden Flashes a 6-2 lead.
Summerville assisted West on a DSU goal with 7:37 left in the opening period to cut Kent State's lead to 6-3.
The Flashes closed out the period with six straight goals to lead 12-3 at the break. Jones scored her second and third goals of the game, while Dean, Bailey and Katz chipped in one each during the late first period spurt.
Kent State led 20-3 before Delaware State scored three of the last four goals in the game.
Emmy McGill tallied her sixth goal of the year in the contest to rank second on the Hornets. Imani Hill and Nicole Burch each scored their second goals of the season in the game.
Summerville leads DSU with eight goals this year.
DSU was outshot 35-13 in the contest.
The Hornets will play their next three games at home, beginning with a visit by Central Michigan next Fri. (Apr. 5). Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
