LA SALLE SCORES LATE TO UPEND HORNETS

Phila., Pa. (Apr. 5, 2017) --- La Salle snapped a 1-1 tie with three eighth inning runs in a 4-2 victory over Delaware State this afternoon.

The Explorers opened up a 3-1 lead when Yan Carlo Rivera singled in two runs with two outs in the eighth off Hornet reliever Travis Dill. Austin Constantini followed with a double to put La Salle ahead by three.

The game was scoreless until the fourth when Jared Gillis led off the inning with a homer to center to give DSU a 1-0 lead. The blast was the first of his college career.

Hornet starter Terry Godfrey kept La Salle off the board before allowing a run in the sixth inning. Hunter McVey relieved Godfrey in the sixth and recorded the final out of the inning to preserve the 1-1 tie.

Delaware State scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Darnel Maisonet in the top of the ninth inning to pull to within two. The Hornets had the potential tying and go-ahead runs on base in the ninth, but Gillis flied out to center to end the game.

La Salle outhit DSU 7-3 in the game.

Jackson Ray (1-1) threw one inning of relief to earn the win for the Explorers. Dill (1-4) took the loss for the Hornets.

Delaware State (8-15) looks to snap a three-game losing streak when it returns to action with a three-game series against MEAC rival Norfolk State this weekend. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. The series concludes with a single game on Sunday.
