Salisbury, Md. (May 19, 2016) --- Delaware State had a brief stay in the 2016 MEAC Baseball Tournament. The Hornets fell to Coppin State 15-4 in an elimination game to end their season Thursday evening. The game was called after the DSU batted in the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule.
The Hornets dropped to the losers' bracket after a 10-5 loss to North Carolina Central in the opening round of the tournament earlier in the day.
Coppin State scored in six of the seven innings, highlighted by a seven-run fourth.
Darien Percell, who began his collegiate career at Delaware State, was three-for-five with a home run and six RBI to lead the Eagles' 14-hit attack. Percell had a two-run homer in the second inning and singled in two runs in the fourth.
Delaware State trailed 2-1 before three runs in the second to grab the lead. The Hornets scored their second inning runs on a sacrifice fly and two on hit batters with the bases loaded.
Freshman Evan Regez had two hits (two-for-four) to lead the Hornets.
Delaware State ended the season with a 13-37 overall record.
