Baltimore, Md. (May 14, 2016) --- Mitchell Carroll doubled in Tim Kelly with one out in the 11th inning to give Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) a 3-2 walk-off win over Delaware State at UMBC's Alumni Field Friday evening.
The loss overshadowed a solid pitching effort by the Hornets, who allowed just eight hits and struck out seven in the three-hour-26-minute affair.

Garrett Coverdale was next on the mound for the Hornets. He allowed just one hit and struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings. Hunter McVey entered the game in the 10th inning for DSU. Delaware State scored first in the contest with a run in the second inning.
Sam Barber doubled with one out, advanced to third on a UMBC error and crossed the plate on a ground out by Chris Panzarella to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
After the Retrievers tied the game with a run in the fourth, the Hornets regained the lead in the fifth.
Devin Beverly singled to lead off the inning and stole second with one out. Two batters later, Darnel Maisonet doubled down the right field line to score Beverly and give the Hornets a 2-1 lead.
Maisonet was two-for-five with a triple and double to give him 10 hits in 16 at bats in the last four games (.625). Barber, Beverly and Rich Rountree also had two hits for DSU.
UMBC tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Andrew Casali, the ninth pitcher of the game for UMBC, was credited with the win. He struck out three of the four batters he faced in the 10th and 11th innings.
The Hornets stranded 12 men on base, including three in the 10th inning. The Retrievers left 10 on base.
