BSB: FAST START KEYS MIDSHIPMEN PAST HORNETS

Dover, Del. (Apr. 13, 2016) --- Navy scored five runs in the first two innings and never looked back in a 16-4 win over Delaware State at Soldier Field this afternoon.

Robert Currie and Sean Trent had three hits and three RBI each to lead the Midshipmen's 17 hit attack. Six Navy hitters had at least two runs batted in, while five players collected two-or-more hits,

Cameron Onderko had two hits and two RBI for Delaware State.

Trent hit a two-run homer to highlight Navy's three-run first inning, while Currie doubled in two second inning runs to give the Mids a 5-0 lead.

Navy stretched its lead to 8-0 on Conner Deneen's two-run blast in the fourth inning.

DSU trailed 10-0 before plating two fifth inning runs. Kwestin Smith singled in the Hornets' first run and the second crossed the plate on a fielder's groundout by Sam Barber. The Hornets pulled to within 10-4 on a two-run single by Onderko in the sixth.     

The Midshipmen tallied six unanswered runs in the last three innings to close out the scoring.

Navy starting pitcher Colin Brady (3-0) was the winning pitcher, while DSU starter Cole Davis (0-7) took the loss.

The Middies completed a two-game sweep of the Hornets this season to improve to 26-9-1, while the Hornets fell to 6-26.

Delaware State returns to MEAC play with a three-game series against Coppin State this weekend. The Hornets and Eagles will play a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 16) beginning at 12 p.m. and wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at noon.
