LAX: HORNETS WIN BACK-TO-BACK, FIRST ROAD GAME WITH VICTORY OVER HOWARD

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 3, 2016) --- The Delaware State lacrosse team achieved two firsts with its 11-7 victory at Howard last week. The win gave the Hornets back-to-back victories for the first time and marked the first road triumph in team history. DSU won its previous game 18-14 over Radford on Feb. 27.

Lauren Perry, Nicole McCombs and Iman Hassan scored three goals each to lead the Hornets in the Howard contest.

Delaware State started quickly in the game. McCombs scored twice in the first two-minutes-30 seconds of the contest to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.

Hassan notched her first score of the affair less than a minute later (26:42) to stretch DSU's lead to 3-0.

Howard sandwiched two goals around Perry's first score of the game, putting the Hornets ahead 4-2 at the 18:26 mark of the first period.

Delaware State answered with four consecutive goals to up by six.

Kiana Dawson started the rally with her fourth goal of the season with 16:53 left in the opening period. Hassan tallied her second score of the game (12:36) and McCombs found the net for the third time in the period about two minutes later to give the Hornets a 7-2 lead.

Hassan's third goal of the contest with 8:06 to go in the period extended DSU's advantage to 8-2, which it held at the break.

Howard stayed in the game by scoring the first three goals of the second period to cut the Hornets' lead to 8-5.    

Delaware State opened up a 9-5 lead when Jaida Camino stopped the Bison rally with a goal at the 16:07 mark of the second period.

The Hornets led 9-6 when Perry scored back-to-back goals, the second with 1:34 left to play to seal the victory.

Hassan has scored at least three times in three of the Hornets' five games to give her a team-high 14 goals and 20 points this season.

McCombs has climbed to second on the team with nine goals and is tied with Kayla Yurkanin for second on the club with 11 points.    

The Hornets begin two-game swing in the state of Michigan this Friday (Mar. 11) at Central Michigan. Game time is 3 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.

DSU will wrap up the trip at Detroit Mercy on Mar. 13 at 11 a.m.
