BSB: HORNETS SHUT DOWN BY COPPIN STATE 3-0 IN MEAC CONTEST

Glen Burnie, Md. (Mar. 25, 2016) – Krystian Negron tossed a six-hit shutout to lead Coppin State to a 3-0 MEAC North victory over Delaware State at Joe Cannon Stadium this afternoon.

The Eagles scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning off Hornet starter Lane DeLeon to account for the scoring in the game.

Negron scattered five singles and one double in the contest. The Hornets had two hits in the fourth inning, but stranded both runners on base. He struck out seven and walked two to improve to 2-3 on the season.

In the Coppin State first, leadoff batter Erik Crossman reached on an error by DSU third baseman Tod Henry. The Eagles had men on second and third with two outs when George Dragon singled to left, driving in both runners. Nazier McIlwain followed with a run-scoring double to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

The Hornets had runners on third and first with two outs in the fourth, but Negron retired Chris Panzarella on a fly to center to end the threat.

DSU had a scoring chance in the sixth, but Austin Bentley was cut down at the plate on a pitch that strayed from the Coppin State catcher to end the inning.

DeLeon (1-3) was tagged with the loss.  He threw 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and the three unearned runs, while striking out four without a walk.

Darien Ragins threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts for the Hornets.

Jaylen Zielecki had Delaware State's only extra base hit, a leadoff double in the third, but he was stranded at second.

Delaware State fell to 2-18 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC, while Coppin State improved to 2-17 and 2-1.

The Hornets and Eagles will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game one begins at 1 p.m. in Glen Burnie, Md.
