W LAX: HORNETS TOPPLED BY VISITING RED FLASH

Dover, Del. (Mar. 20, 2016) --- Delaware State's hope for a second straight home win was taken away by St. Francis (Pa.) this afternoon. Jessica Mazzur and Holly Lawrence scored four goals each to lead the Red Flash to a 20-6 victory over the Hornets at Alumni Stadium.The contest was DSU's first at home since an 18-14 victory over Radford on Feb. 27.

A total of eight players scored for St. Francis. Sarah Mahon and Morgan Day tallied three goals each, while Katie Schaaf assisted on five of the Red Flash scores.

Kayla Yurkanin had two goals to lead the Hornets. Lauren Perry, Olivia Summerville, Nicole McCombs and Tai Galmore also tallied scores for DSU.

The Hornets (2-6) opened the scoring when Yurkanin scored her 11th goal of the season three-minutes-and-four-seconds into the contest.

St. Francis (2-6) answered with five straight goals, two by Lawrence, over a six-minute span to take over the game. Blair Rosenberg capped off the rally with a score at the 17:13 mark of the first period to give the Red Flash a 5-1 lead.

Yurkanin ended the St. Francis run with her second goal of the game and 12th this season with 13:44 left in the opening period.

After a score by Mahon upped the Red Flash lead to 6-2, McCombs tallied her 10th goal of the season to pull the Hornets to within three with 12:13 remaining the period.

St. Francis responded with a four-goal run to open up a 10-3 lead.

Summerville scored the final goal of the period for the Hornets to cut the Red Flash lead to 10-4 at the break.

St. Francis started fast in the second period, scoring the first five goals to take a 15-4 lead.

Galmore and Perry had back-to-back scores to pull the Hornets to within 15-6 with 18:02 left to play, but the Red Flash answered with another five-goal spurt to round out the scoring.

Delaware State was outshot 37-22 in the contest.

The Hornets will return to action next Saturday (Mar. 26) against Wagner in their final home game of the 2016 season.  The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
