BSB: MARIST SCORES TWO LATE RUNS TO DOWN HORNETS 4-2

Dover, Del. (Mar. 11, 2016) --- Marist scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and an insurance run in the ninth in a 4-2 come-from-behind win over Delaware State in the Hornets' home opener at Soldier Field today.

DSU led 2-0 after three innings, but gave up the last four runs to remain winless this season (0-13). The Red Foxes improved to 3-7.

The Hornets opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Darnel Maisonet started the rally with a one-out double. Three batters later, Chris Panzarella singled up the middle to score Maisonet with the game's first run.

Delaware State opened up a 2-0 lead with a run in the third. Todd Henry doubled to lead off the inning, and advanced to third on a one-out wild pitch. There was still one out when Cameron Onderko singled through the second base hole to score Henry.

Marist tied the game with two runs in the fourth off Hornet starter Sean McGrath. The first run scored on a throwing error by DSU catcher Adrian Hill and Frank Gregiore drove in the second run on a two-out double.

The Red Foxes took their first lead of the game on an unearned run in the eighth off DSU reliever Hunter McVey (0-2). Marist centerfielder Graham McIntire reached on an error to lead off the inning and scored the go-ahead run on a two-out infield single by Tyler Kirkpatrick.

Marist tacked on an insurance run in the ninth when Joey Aiola and Greg Kocinski began the inning with back-to-back doubles.

Delaware State put a runner on base with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Marist reliever Ryan Thomas retired the last two batters to earn his second save of the season.

Marist starter Sean Keenan (2-1) allowed eight hits and two runs, while striking out six without a walk to record the win.

Henry and Maisonet had two hits each for the Hornets.

The teams will continue the series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest. The series concludes with a 12 p.m. game on Sunday.
