BSB: HORNETS AGAIN STIFLED BY GARNER-WEBB PITCHING IN SERIES FINALE

Boiling Springs, N.C. (Feb. 21, 2016) --- Gardner-Webb completed a four-game sweep of Delaware State with a 7-1 victory in the series finale this afternoon.

Bulldog starter Bradley Hallman pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out seven and walking one, to earn the win.

The Hornets avoided a shutout for the third straight game with a run in the top of the ninth inning. Rich Rountree singled to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Cameron Onderko was hit by a pitch, sending Rountree to second.  Chris Panzarella followed with a double to center, scoring Rountree to snap a 24-inning scoreless streak for the Hornets.

Gardner-Webb opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs added two runs in the third and fourth innings to open up a 5-0 lead.

G-W closed out the scoring with single runs in the fifth and eighth innings.

Eric Jones, Danny Sullivan and JD Huggins drove in two runs each to lead the Bulldogs' nine-hit attack.

Panzarella and Kwestin Smith had two hits each for the Hornets. Smith had a team-high six hits (6-14) to post a .429 average in the series.

DSU starter Darnell Maisonet-Velez allowed eight hits and five runs in four innings to take the loss. He struck out four and walked one in his collegiate pitching debut.

The Hornets return to action with a single game at George Washington on Tuesday (Feb. 23). First pitch is slated for 3 p.m in Arlington, Va.
