LA SALLE TOO MUCH FOR HORNETS IN NON-CONFERENCE CLASH

Phila., Pa. (Apr. 21, 2015) --- La Salle pounded out 19 hits, including three home runs, in a 13-4 victory over Delaware State in a non-conference game at Hank DeVincent Field today.

The Explorers defeated DSU for the second time this season to improve 18-19-1, while the Hornets fell to 9-25.

Cameron Johnson was four-for-six with a homer and three runs batted in to lead La Salle's offensive attack. Joey Ravert had two hits and three RBI, while teammates Travis George and Michael Flax drove in two runs each. Ravert and George also had round-trippers in the contest.

Justin Allen had two of DSU's five hits, including a triple, and a RBI.

The Hornets opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning.  David Kimbrough walked to lead off the game, and stole second with none out. Kimbrough was still on second with two outs when Allen singled up the middle to drive him home with the game's first run.

La Salle wasted little time responding when Ravert smacked a three-run homer off DSU starter Travis Dill in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.

The Explorers added three runs in the fourth on a three-run shot by Johnson to open up a five-run lead.

George hit a solo blast with one out in the fifth to stretch Las Salle's lead to 7-1.

The Hornets got one back in the sixth when Jaylen Zielecki drove home Cameron Onderko on a two-out infield single.

La Salle answered with three in the bottom of the sixth to open up a 10-2 lead.

The Hornets scored a run in the top of the seventh on a sac fly by Onderko; and another in the eighth when Allen tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a ground out by Austin Bentley.

Dill (0-2) allowed seven hits and three runs in three innings to take the loss. La Salle starter Jordan Meyer (2-3) was the winning pitcher. Meyer gave up a run on two hits, while striking out six in five innings.

The Hornets return to MEAC action with a three-game series at Coppin State this weekend. The series begins with a noon doubleheader on Sat. (Apr. 25) at Joe Cannon Stadium in Glen Burnie, Md.
