NAVY SAILS BY HORNETS TO COMPLETE THREE-GAME SEASON SWEEP

Dover, Del. (Apr. 15, 2015) --- Stephen Born was four-for-four with five runs batted in and teammate Sean Trent  had four hits and four RBI in five at bats to lead Navy to a 15-7 win over Delaware State at Soldier Field today.

The Midshipmen won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 27-13 this season, while the Hornets fell to 8-22. Navy won all three meetings between the teams this season.

The Mids scored runs in seven of their nine at bats, including four times in the second and fifth innings. Navy collected 18 hits, five for extra bases.

Delaware State had 13 hits in the contest. Third baseman Devin Beverly had a career-high three hits, while Charles Dailey, Cameron Onderko and Ron Farley notched two each.

Navy opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning off DSU starter Tyler Cullen. Trent doubled in the first run and Born followed with a triple to drive home the second. Sean Hamhoot brought in the final run of the inning on a sac fly.   

Delaware State answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Dailey doubled to lead off the inning, and scored the Hornets' first run on a single by Onderko. Jaylen Zielecki drove in Onderko on a fielder's  for the second run of the inning.  

The Midshipmen scored four runs in the second to open up a 7-2 lead. Born had a two-run single and Trent singled in his second run of the game in the inning.

The Hornets got one back in the bottom of the second. Beverly singled with none out and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Dailey to cut Navy's lead to 7-3.

Robert Currie had a sac fly in the top of the third inning for Navy, and Austin Bentley drove in a run for the Hornets on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.

Daley led off the Delaware State fourth with his sixth home run of the season to pull the Hornets to within 8-5. He is tied with Farley for the team home run lead.

Navy responded with four runs in the fifth inning to stretch its lead to 12-5. Trent had a run-scoring double and Born singled in his fourth and fifth runs of the game in the inning.

Trent singled in his fourth run of the contest in the sixth to give the Midshipmen a 13-5 lead.

Navy led 15-5 when Jake Bartlett singled in two runs in the ninth inning for the Hornets to close out the scoring.

Cullen (0-3) allowed five hits and seven runs in 1.2 innings to take the loss for DSU.

Navy reliever Charlie LaMar (1-0) pitched three innings to earn the win.

Delaware State returns to action with a MEAC doubleheader at UMES on Saturday. Game one gets underway at noon in Princess Anne, Md. The teams will play a single game on Sunday.
