Riverdale, N.Y. (Apr. 11, 2015) --- Manhattan scored the first three goals and last seven of the game en route to a 16-5 win over Delaware State today.
The Hornets, coming off their first-ever win on Wednesday, fell to 1-13 this season, while the Jaspers improved to 3-11.
Megan Yarusso scored five goals and Domenica O'Bey came off the bench to tally four to lead Manhattan. O'Bey also had an assist to tie Yarusso for game-high honors with five points.
Emily Etkins led Delaware State with two goals to set the Hornets' single-season mark for the second straight year. Etkins has 22 goals this season, eclipsing the previous school record of 20 she set last season.
Lauren Perry, Kayla Yurkanin and Miranda Hawkins each scored a goal for the Hornets.
Manhattan scored first on a goal by Kaitlyn Cunningham 30 seconds into the contest. Yarusso scored her first goal of the game to give the aspers a 3-0 lead at the 25:50 mark of the opening period.
DSU trailed 4-0 when Etkins tallied her first goal of the contest on a free position shot with 21:06 left in the first period.
Yarusso's second goal put Manhattan ahead 6-1.
The Hornets answered with back-to-back scores by Hawkins and Etkins to cut the Jaspers' lead to 6-3.
Yarusso tallied her third goal of the game with 1:47 left in the period to give Manhattan an 8-3 lead at the break.
Delaware State scored first just 32 seconds into the second period on a goal by Perry to pull the Hornets to within 8-4. She moved into second on the Hornets with 12 goals and is tied for second with 14 points this season.
DSU stayed within striking distance when Yurkanin found the net to cut the Jaspers' lead to 9-5 at the 22:24 mark of the second period.
The Hornets were shutout for the rest of the game, while Manhattan scored seven times in the final 19:51 of the contest.
Hawkins and Yurkanin each has 11 goals this season.
The Hornets will wrap up the 2015 season at home against Howard on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
