Conway, S.C. (Mar. 9, 2015) --- Delaware State scored the first goal one-minute-37-seconds into the game, but was shutout the rest of the way in a 19-1 loss to Coastal Carolina on Sunday.
Taylor Pascale and Rachel Wagner came off the bench to score three goals each to lead the Chanticleers (2-3). Wagner also had two assists to lead all players with five points. Coastal Carolina's Maggie Carr had two goals and two assists. Eleven players scored at least one goal for the Chanticleers.
The Hornets (0-6) grabbed their first lead of the season when Emily Etkins scored an unassisted goal at the 28:23 mark of the first period. It was her team leading seventh goal of the season and 27th in 16 career games at DSU.
Coastal Carolina needed 1:12 to tie the game when Haley Kyger scored off a feed from Maggie Carr.
The Chanticleers added three goals in the next five minutes to open up a 4-1 lead.
Coastal Carolina scored another nine goals in the period, including two by Wagner, to hold a 13-1 advantage at the break.
Wagner added her third of the game and assisted on two others in the second period.
The Hornets return to action on Wednesday (Mar. 11) at La Salle. Game time is 7 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa. DSU's next home game is Mar. 16 against Detroit Mercy (1 p.m.).
