HORNET FRESHMAN SHUTS OUT G.W. 1-0

Arlington, Va. (Mar. 25, 2015) --- Freshman left-hander Terry Godfrey (East Prospect, Pa.) tossed a five-hit shutout and Charles Dailey singled in the game's only run in the third inning to lead Delaware State to a 1-0 win over George Washington at Tucker Field today.

Godfrey, making his first start in just his fourth collegiate appearance, scattered four singles and a double to record the Hornets' first shutout since Matt McClain blanked Akron 4-0 on 11 hits during the 2014 season.

It was also DSU's first 1-0 victory since defeating Bucknell on Feb. 22, 2014.

Godfrey struck out two and walked four.

He allowed two runners to reach base in each of the first three innings, but worked his way out of trouble each time.

Godfrey retired the Colonials in order in the fifth and seventh innings.

GW pinch hitter Brandon Chapman doubled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Godfrey got Colonial pinch hitter Matthieu Robert out on a pop up to third baseman Chris Gonzalez to end the game.

The Hornets scored the only run they needed in the top of the third inning. Tyler Ramsey walked to lead off the inning, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Baber. Two batters later, Dailey (sr.; Pasadena, Md.) singled up the middle to score Ramsey.

DSU had just four singles in the game. Cameron Onderko, Justin Allen and Gonzalez had the other hits for the Hornets.

Godfrey's complete game provides a big boost to DSU's pitching staff. The Hornets used a total of 26 pitchers in their previous five games.

George Washington fell to 10-8 this season.

Delaware State (6-12; 5-1 MEAC) returns to MEAC North play with a three-game series against UMES at Soldier Field. The series begins with a doubleheader on State (Mar. 28) beginning at noon.
