Annapolis, Md. (Mar. 10, 2015) --- Navy scored six runs in the third inning and four in the fourth in a 13-2 victory over Delaware State at Max Bishop Field on Monday. Robert Currie was four-for-five with three runs batted in, and Brad Borosak had three hits and three RBI to lead the Midshipmen's 10-hit attack.
Delaware State scored first with a run in the top of the second inning.
Tyler Ramsey was hit by a pitch with one out. He advanced to third on a double by Jaylen Zielecki, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ron Farley.
Navy scored six runs on just three hits in the bottom of the third inning off Hornet starter Chris Gonzalez (0-3) to take control of the game. Currie double in two runs in the inning. The Midshipmen also scored runs on a walk, wild pitch and fielder's choice in the third. Gonzalez walked three batters in the inning.
Navy added four runs in the fourth inning to open up a 10-1 lead. Currie tripled in a run and Borosak had a run-scoring single in the inning.
Delaware State scored for the final time in the fifth when Farley tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a ground out by Austin Bentley.
Borosak tripled in two runs in the fifth and Ben Lowe smacked a solo homer in the sixth to close out the scoring for the Midshipmen.
Delaware State freshman relievers Darrien Ragins and Garrett Coverdale each threw a scoreless inning in the contest. Ragins struck out two of the four batters he faced, while Coverdale fanned one.
Navy starter George Coughlin (2-1) pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and two runs, while striking out five in seven innings, to earn the win.
The Hornets fell to 0-9 this season, while Navy improved to 10-4.
Delaware State is scheduled to begin MEAC North play with a home doubleheader against Norfolk State this Saturday beginning at noon. The Hornets have yet to play at home this season.
