Dover, Del. (Mar. 19, 2014) --- The Delaware State University lacrosse team fell behind 7-0 in the first eight minutes and never recovered in a 20-1 loss at La Salle in the rain at Alumni Stadium this evening.
Twelve players scored at least one goal for the Explorers, who improved to 5-3 this season. Katelyn Fay, Katie Fonte and Allee Ilgenfritz scored three goals each to lead La Salle's 46-shot attack.
Miranda Hawkins (so.) scored the lone Delaware State goal on a free position shot with 7:46 left to play. It was her first goal of the season and second career score.
Delaware State goal keepers Rhian Sellers (so.) and Emily Pasternak (fr.) combined for 15 saves in the contest, the third best total for the Hornets this season. Sellers started the second half. She had eight saves in 30 minutes. Pasternak, starting her second contest, stopped seven shots.
DSU (0-8) played without leading scorer Emily Etkins (15 goals; 17 points), who sat out due to an injury. She is expected to return to the lineup when the Hornets return to action at home this Sat. (Mar. 22) against St. Francis (Pa.). Game time is 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
