Dover, Del. (Mar. 15, 2014) --- The Delaware State University women's lacrosse team trailed just 1-0 after more than 11-and-a-half-minutes, but surrendered seven goals over the next 10 minutes in an 18-2 loss to Manhattan at Alumni Stadium.
Eleven players scored at least one goal for the Jaspers, who improved to 2-4 this season. Kelsey Rehain led Manhattan with three games, while teammate Carley Eskenazi had two goals and three assists.
Emily Etkins had a goal and an assist for the Hornets. Etkins has 15 goals and 17 points, each a DSU single-season high.
Kiyanna Brown scored her fifth goal of the season and 13th of her career in the contest for the Hornets.
Delaware State freshman goal keeper Emily Paternak started her first game for Delaware State. Pasternak had 11 saves in the contest, including seven in the first 10 minutes.
Manhattan scored 48 seconds into the game on a goal by Eskenazi to jump out on top.
The Jaspers led 3-0 when Etkins put the Hornets on the board with a score off a feed from Emily Peets with 15:28 left in the first period.
Manhattan ran off the next seven goals to open up a 10-1 lead.
Delaware State broke the Jaspers' run on a goal by Brown with 1:06 to go before halftime. Etkins notched her second assist of the season on the Brown score.
The Jasper led 12-2 at the break.
Delaware State fell to 0-7 this season.
The Hornets return to action on Wednesday at home against La Salle. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
