HORNETS FALL TO E. CAROLINA IN REG. SEASON FINALE

Greenville, N.C. (May 15, 2011) --- The Delaware State baseball team closed out its 2011 regular season with a 6-1 loss to East Carolina at Clark-Leclair Field this afternnon.

The Pirates swept the three-game series to improve to 34-17. The Hornets fell to 24-27.

Chase McDonald was 2-for-4 with a homer and five RBI to lead East Carolina. McDonald hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead. He drove in a run on a ground out in the third inning and doubled in his fifth run of the game in the fifth. 

The Hornets trailed 6-0 before scoring its lone run on a bases loaded walk to Peter Broehl in the seventh inning. Broehl had two of DSU's eight hits.

Delaware State left seven runners on base and hit into three double plays.

Tommy Dill, Derek Marshallsea, Tony Gatto and DJ Miller each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Hornets.

Delaware State will return to action on Wednesday (May 18) against Maryland-Eastern Shre in the opening round of the 2011 MEAC Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. Game time is 10:00 a.m. at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
