Dover, Del. (May 21, 2010) --- Senior Abe Eubank was 5-for-5 with two homers and four runs batted in to lead Delaware State to a 14-2 win over Coppin State in a MEAC Tournament elimination game at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla., this evening.
The game was halted after the Eagles batted in the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule. The Hornets will take on Norfolk State in an elimination game on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Coppin State led 1-0 before the Hornets scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tony Gatto singled in the first run, and Mike Rizzuto followed with a three-run triple to give DSU a 4-1 lead. Rizzuto scored the fifth run on a Coppin State error.
The Hornets added four runs in the second to stretch their lead to 9-1. Joey Babuca had a two-run single and Gatto drove in his second run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the inning.
Delaware State opened up an 11-1 lead on a two-run homer by Eubank in the bottom of the fifth. He blasted his second homer of the game in the sixth, another two-run shot, to give Delaware State a 13-2 lead. He also singled in the first, second and third innings.
The Hornets had 13 hits in the contest. Eight players had at least one hit.
Shane Foreman pitched a complete game to earn the win. He allowed six hits and two runs, while striking out six.
