Dover, Del. (May 18, 2010) --- Delaware State will take on the Norfolk State Spartans in the opening round of the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament on Thursday in Daytona Beach, Florida. Game time is 6:00 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The Hornets, 12-34 overall and 8-10 in the MEAC, are seeded fourth in the six-team tournament field. The Spartans (19-26; 9-9) are the No. 3 seed. Regular season champ Bethune-Cookman will battle No. 6 Maryland-Eastern Shore, while No. 2 North Carolina A&T will take on No. 5 Coppin State in the other first round match ups.
Norfolk State won two of three games against the Hornets on April 24-25 at DSU's Soldier Field this season. Delaware State won the series opener, 8-7, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Spartans won the nightcap, 9-6. NSU came from behind to post a 13-12 win in the series finale.
If the Hornets win their tournament opener, they'll take on the North Carolina A&T/Coppin State winner in the second round on Friday (May 21) at 2:00 p.m. An opening round loss would pit DSU against the NCA&T/Coppin State loser on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
The tournament champion will be crowned on Sunday.
