Dover, Del. (Mar. 28,2010) -- - Jordan Elliot pitched seven strong innings and freshman Joey Babuca drove in three runs to lead to Delaware State to an 8-4 come-from-behind win over Savannah State at Soldier Field this afternoon.
The Hornets (4-16) trailed by three runs before storming back, scoring the last seven runs of the game.
Elliot earned the win after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, while striking out six.
Delaware State opened the scoring when Abe Eubank singled in a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Savannah State scored a run in the second inning, two in the third and another in the fifth to open up a 4-1 lead.
The Hornets scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead. Keith Hernandez walked to lead off the inning. He advanced to third on a double by Eubank and scored on a groundout by Ryan Haas. Tony Gatto followed with a run-scoring single and Babuca doubled in two more to give the Hornets a 5-4 lead. Jose Portela singled in the final run of the inning to give the Hornets a two-run lead.
Delaware State added insurance runs in the sixth on sacrifice flies by Babuca and Mike Rizzuto.
Eubank was 3-for-3 with a run batted in, while Babuca was 2-for-2 with two walks.
The Hornets return to action on Friday for the MEAC opener at Maryland-Eastern Shore
