HORNETS FALL TO NAVY IN BASEBALL OPENER

HOYAS OUTSLUG HORNETS, 18-7

Dover, Del. (Mar. 23, 2010) --- Georgetown had 17 hits, including three homers, in an 18-7 win over Delaware State at Soldier Field this afternoon.

The Hoyas improved to 11-8 on the season, while Hornets fell to 3-14.

Georgetown got off to a fast start, scoring six runs in the first inning off DSU starter Shane Foreman. After the first run scored on a Delaware State error, Sean Lamont followed with a three-run homer. Two batters later, Will Cupelo added a two-run shot to give the Hoyas a 6-0 lead.

The visitors blew the game open by scoring eight runs in the second inning. The big blow was a grand slam by Tommy Lee.

Delaware State trailed 15-0 before getting on the board in the fourth. Keith Hernandez singled with one out, advanced to third on a double by Joey Babuca and scored when Warren Stimpson reached base on an error.

The Hornets added three runs in the seventh, highlighted by Tony Gatto's two-run homer, to cut Georgetown's lead to 18-5. Gatto tops the Hornets with three homers and 13 runs batted in this season.

Scott Davis closed out scoring for DSU with a two-run homer in the eighth.

Babuca was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Hornets, while Hernandez, Davis and Ryan Haas had two hits each.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader at home against Savannah State. The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday.
