HORNETS USE BALANCED ATTACK TO DEFEAT EAGLES

Baltimore, Md. (Jan. 25, 2010) --- Frisco Sandidge led five players in double-figures with a game-high 17 points in Delaware State's 63-59 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's basketball win over Coppin State at the new CSU Physical Education Center Monday evening.

The Hornets won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the MEAC. Coppin State fell to 5-13 and 0-3.

Chad Wilson tallied 12 points for the Hornets, the fourth time he has reached double-figures in scoring in the last five games. He nailed three three-point shots in the contest, giving him 14 in the last five games.

Marcus Neal added 11 points, while Marques Oliver and Jay Threatt had 10 each for DSU.

Oliver also led all players with 11 rebounds to record his first career double-double. Threatt also contributed seven rebounds, five steals and two assists to the win.

Quinston Reggins was high scorer for Coppin State with 14 points, while Kareem Brown had 13 and Michael Harper 12 for the Eagles.

Delaware State led by as many as 13 in the first half, but Coppin State rallied to pull to within 33-31 at the break.

Coppin State scored the first eight points of the second half, and opened up a 39-33 lead on a basket by Harper with 14:41 left to play.

The Hornets didn't score their first second-half points until a follow-up basket by Sandidge to cut the Eagles' lead to 39-35 with 13:54 remaining. Sandidge nailed two more shots, Threatt hit a lay up and Oliver added a dunk on DSU's next four possessions to give the Hornets a 43-39 lead with 11:46 left.

Delaware State opened up a 54-43 lead when Sandidge hit two free throws with 5:36 left in the game.

Coppin State scored 13 of the next 18 points, and pulled to within 59-56 on a three-point play by Reggins with 45 seconds left.

Threatt and Neal each hit two free throws in the last 18 seconds to seal the win for the Hornets.

Delaware State wrapped up a four-game road swing with a 3-1 record, with the only loss coming to MEAC leader Morgan State last Saturday. The Hornets return home this Saturday (Jan. 30) to face Hampton. Game time is 4:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
