DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 3, 2009) ? In the final game of the a three-game, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference set the Delaware State Baseball Team (19-21-1, 10-8 MEAC) lost 11-1 (7 innings) to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (26-24, 16-2 MEAC) on Sunday, May 3 at Jackie Robinson Park.
The Hornets were held to one run on seven hits while committing one error. Mike Rizzuto and Troy Drummond recorded two hits on the afternoon to lead DSU. Rizzuto batted 2-for-3 with the team's lone RBI. Drummond was a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Senior Josh Schmidt (4-6) was saddled with the loss allowing 11 runs on 13 hits with six strikeouts in five and one-third innings of action.
Bethune-Cookman registered 11 runs on 13 hits and was led by Jeremy Davis, who went 3-for-3 with six RBI.
Freshman Ali Simpson (7-2) earned the victory, giving up one run on six hits with seven Ks in five innings pitched.
With the loss, DSU finishes its conference portion of the 2009 season with a 10-8 record.
Delaware State will travel to Blacksburg, Va., to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in a doubleheader on Sunday, May 10. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
