DSU BATTLES RAIN TO BEAT LINCOLN, 15-6

DOVER (February 22, 2009) ? Even with the downpour making playing conditions nearly unplayable, the Hornets tallied 15 runs on eights hits to win their third straight against Lincoln today at Soldier Field.  The game was called after the fifth inning due to rain and the second game of the double-header was postponed.

Lincoln took an early 3-0 lead in the first only to see it evaporate in the bottom half of the inning.  Troy Drummond hit DSU's first home run of the season to bring the Hornets within a run.  Ross Babineaux singled to tie the game at three.

The Lions tacked on two more runs in the second inning but Delaware State came right back and scored three more in the third.

The Hornets would pull far ahead in the fifth and final inning drawing seven walks leading to eight runs and the 15-6 victory.

Troy Drummond, Jose Sanchez, Justin Bittner, and James Johnson all drove in two runs to lead the DSU offense.  David Langton pitched three strong innings in relief with seven strikeouts to get the win.

The team will travel to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy, this Wednesday, February 25.  Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
