HORNETS SWEEP DOUBLE-HEADER VS. LINCOLN

DOVER (February 21, 2009) ? DSU outscored Lincoln University 30-1 to take both games of a  season-opening double-header today at Soldier Field.

In game one, a 10-run first inning gave DSU a season-opening confidence that they would build on the rest of the day.  Even though the 10 runs only came on one hit, the Hornet hitters were patient at the plate drawing seven walks in the opening inning.

The third inning also brought success at the plate as the Hornets scored five more runs on five hits to add to their lead.  Jared Lineweaver and Ross Babineaux each drove in a run in the inning.

For the game, Babineaux and Jose Sanchez each drove in two runs while pitcher Josh Schmidt threw a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts.

In game two, Lincoln jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but a one-run second inning and three-run third by DSU gave the lead back to the Hornets.  Babineaux scored on a wild pitch to tie the game while Justin Bittner drove in the winning run.

Babineaux and Wynton Weather both drove in two runs to lead the team offensively in the game.  Starting pitcher Shane Foreman through four innings in the win, allowing just one earned run while striking out six batters.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow for another double-header starting at noon.
