HORNETS/AGGIES BREAK EVEN IN BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER

Greensboro, NC ? The Delaware State baseball team scored three runs in the eighth inning to defeat North Carolina A&T 5-2 in the second game of a doubleheader at War Memorial Stadium this afternoon. The Aggies won the first game 14-2. In the nightcap, Jose Sanchez singles in three runs with two outs in the eighth to snap a 2-2 tie. Josh Schmidt retired the Aggies on one hit in the bottom of the eighth to earn the complete game win. North Carolina A&T opened the scoring with two runs in the last of the first inning. The Hornets tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth. A fielding error on the Aggies allowed Jim Johnson and Ryne Mailen to score the tying runs. Schmidt allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out six, to improve to 6-4 on the season. In the opener, the Aggies had 10 hits, including three home runs. CJ Beatty was 2-for-4 with a homer and five RBI, while Neil Rosser and a homer and four runs batted in. Jarrett Bibb hit a two-run homer in the sixth, his 10th of the season, to account for Delaware State's runs. The teams will wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday.
