DOVER, Del. - Delaware State football was represented seven times on the All-MEAC Preseason Team, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
The First Team honorees were
NyGhee Lolley and
Marquise Brunson. The Second Team included
Marquis Gillis,
Edward Core,
Isaiah Cook,
Anthony Johnson, and
Brian Bates.
Lolley was placed on the First Team offense. In 12 games in 2024, he had team-highs of 40 receptions and 541 yards, and he caught one touchdown. Lolley also returned seven kickoffs for 149 yards.
Brunson was named to the First Team defense. In 11 games last year, he contributed 17 tackles to the Hornets' defense, including six solo. Brunson saw three tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.
Gillis, Core, and Cook were among the Second Team offense. Gillis only saw two games last season, but he ran seven times for 31 yards and a touchdown. He was used on special teams as well, tallying four kickoffs for 71 yards. Core recorded 12 grabs for 86 yards in four games. Cook appeared twice on the Hornets' offensive line.
Lastly, Johnson and Bates made the Second Team defense. Johnson had nine appearances in 2024, logging 13 tackles (12 solo). Bates, appearing in 12 games last season, saw 36 tackles (22 solo). He had three tackles for loss and two sacks (tied for first on team in sacks).
The Hornets are led by first-year head coach
DeSean Jackson. Delaware State is looking to improve from their 1-11 (0-5 MEAC) record last season.
Lolley is from Newark, Del. Brunson is a native of Dover, Del. Gillis hails from Milford, Del. Core is from Waldorf, Md. Cook is a Willingboro, N.J. native. Johnson is from Philadelphia, Pa. Bates comes from Centreville, Va.
