BALTIMORE, Maryland --Delaware State got on the scoreboard first and never looked back on the way to a 14-12 win against Morgan State Friday night on the road at Hughes Stadium.
The Hornets improved to 7-3 on the year and 3-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Bears fell to 3-7 and 0-3. Coach Jackson has now led the Hornets to their firsr winning season since 2012.
James Jones paced the Hornets rushing attack by accumulating 115 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 8.8 yards per carry. Terrence Rone also added five yards on the ground, averaging 5 yards per carry, as well as 40 receiving yards.
Ryan Pellum Taylor reeled in one catch for 44 yards.
paced the Delaware State defensive effort, collecting three tackles, 1.0 TFL, one sack, and one recovered fumble. Brian Bates added four tackles, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble and had four tackles, 2.0 TFL, two sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble in the win.
Delaware State's defense held up against Morgan State's offense, giving up 285 total yards. The Hornets defense took up residence in Morgan State's backfield all game, collecting five sacks and 10 total tackles for loss.
How It Happened
Delaware State grabbed a 7-0 lead over Morgan State after scoring the game's first points on the opening drive of the game.Morgan State then narrowed the score to 7-3, but the Hornets responded with a touchdown to make their lead 14-3. Delaware State didn't score again in the game and Morgan State added nine more points to finish off the scoring.
