TEANECK, N.J. --The Delaware State Hornets struggled on Saturday, falling to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights 13-3 despite the efforts of Justin Batts, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI.
Eddie Del Valle (0-6) got the ball to start for Delaware State (3-18, 2-9) and took the loss.
Offensively, the Hornets were led by Batts, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Alec Rodriguez put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Hassan Turner also helped out for Delaware State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Batts put Delaware State on the board with a leadoff home run off J. Vlastaris.
The Knights expanded their lead to 9-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Brady Daniels' run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Delaware State scored twice, which brought the score to 9-3 in favor of the Knights. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Fairleigh Dickinson added four runs to their tally on the way to a 13-3 final.
