DOVER, DE --Senior Chris Amparo put together a brilliant outing at the plate Sunday, hitting two home runs to help propel the Delaware State Hornets past the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights 11-5.
Freshman Rocardo Gonzalez  started on the mound and picked up the win for Delaware State (9-17, 8-7). The right-hander went five innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out five. Senior H Davis also made an impact on the mound for the Hornets, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Amparo went 4-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with six RBIs. Senior Jancarlos Colon added to Amparo's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Freshman Jaryn Sample also helped out for the Hornets, going 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and an RBI.
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Delaware State's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Amparo and a two-run triple from Colon.
The Knights failed to push any runs across before the Hornets offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Amparo, which brought the score to 8-2 in favor of the Hornets.
Fairleigh Dickinson narrowed Delaware State's lead to 8-4 before the Hornets stretched the advantage to 9-4 in the fourth inning. The Hornets picked up a run on Sample's one-out solo home run off senior V. Ceverino.
Delaware State held the Knights scoreless before expanding their lead in the seventh inning. The Hornets drove home a run on Amparo's leadoff home run off senior I. Barrett, bringing the Delaware State advantage to 10-4.
The Hornets held Fairleigh Dickinson off the scoreboard before building on their lead to 11-4 the following inning. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Amparo. Fairleigh Dickinson put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hornets still coasted to the 11-5 win. Fairleigh Dickinson was led offensively by freshman J. Dimotta, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Ceverino led the Knights pitching staff, throwing four innings of two-run ball.
