DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets were not able to record a run against Fairleigh Dickinson pitcher junior P. Gardner on Friday and were shut out 5-0 by the Knights.
Sophomore Jack Messmore (0-0) got the ball to start for Delaware State (7-17, ) and took the loss. Senior Peter Carreca was a bright spot for the Hornets, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one scoreless inning, allowing no hits.
Delaware State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Hornets went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the first, when senior Jancarlos Colon made it into scoring position with one out. FDUÂ was led offensively by senior B. Harden, who went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Gardner led the Knights pitching staff, throwing nine shutout innings.
The Hornets will return Saturday, April 6 for game two in the three game series against FDU. First Pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m
